The Ultimate Slot Machine Glossary
It's hard to play a game when you're not familiar with the jargon or slang used by the players and when it comes to slot machines, there are definitely a lot of terms that you have to learn the meaning first so that you and the veteran slot machine players wouldn't need a translator in order to interact.
Here are a few slot machine terms that you would no doubt find useful:
Random Number Generator - If 666 is generally considered the bad number by the Church, the acronym RNG is definitely the slot machine's equivalent for that. The Random Number Generator is what most players believe as the reason why it's so hard to win at the slots. The RNG makes everything that happens in the slot machine a product of random choice. It actually continues to work even when no one's using the slot machine.
Wild Card - This is generally a welcomed thing by most slot machine players since a wild card can be counted as any card at all. But since it's a wild card after all, there's no way of knowing when it's going to turn up.
Slot Schedule - This is another term for payout schedule and no, it doesn't have anything to do with what time the slot machines would shut down. The slot schedule basically lets players know what denominations are deemed acceptable and what payouts one can expect.
Slot Cycle - This is another term for the average payoff percentage of a particular slot machine in any given (fiscal) year and is used to advertise and encourage people to play the slots.
Short Win - This is the term used for large jackpots won by a player who only invested a small amount of money while playing the slots. Believe it or not but this actually happens very often!
Slot Mix or Slot Placement - A lot of slot machine enthusiasts believe that it's easier to win when playing any of the highly visible slot machines because casino owners want the people to see that winning is really possible in the slots.
Coin Size - No, before you even say it, the coin size does not have anything to do with the size or shape of your coin. Rather, it's talking about how much you wish to bet on a particular slot game.
Pay Line - This is the term used for winning combinations of numbers or symbols in the slot machines.
Multi-Pay Line - Slot machines with multi-pay lines allow players to win in several different ways. Pay lines can also be diagonal or vertical.
